Newsletter December 2005
Welcome to the Christmas edition of the Woodley Concert Band newsletter. In this edition, we will be updating you on another busy summer, give you hot-off-the–press details of next year's concert dates, and introduce you to some new arrivals.
Christmas Concert - 11th December 2005, 2.30pm and 7.30pm, Bearwood College, Sindlesham
Our Christmas concert is fast approaching and will feature "Five Voices", as well as carols and a selection of festive favourites, including Troika, Sleigh Ride, and a quiz based on some Christmas medleys to test your musical knowledge. This year, all proceeds from both our Christmas raffles will be donated to the RNLI - so come along, buy your tickets, contribute to a very worthwhile cause and possibly win yourself a prize! Tickets are selling well for both the afternoon (2.30pm) and the evening (7.30pm) concerts.

Remembering World War II
This year we have been marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. In August, Woodley Concert Band played at an afternoon of remembrance and celebration in the new Forbury Gardens, Reading. Our contribution to the day included accompaniment of hymns for a short service and an afternoon concert including a medley of 'songs that won the war' and well-known marches.
Woodley Concert Band also provided music for the Henley-on-Thames Remembrance Service - an annual engagement that we are proud to be associated with, particularly as some of our members are ex-servicemen.
On 3rd December the Band will end the 60th Anniversary year with a concert for the British Legion in Holyport, near Maidenhead, where we will be entertaining our audience with music from the 1940's, including Happy Days are Here Again, White Cliffs of Dover and We'll Meet Again.

Around the Band..... - Welcomes, Farewells and New Arrivals
In the last few months we are pleased to have welcomed Cliff Donaldson who has recently moved to the area from Warrington. Cliff is a welcome addition to our trumpet section, particularly as Will Hughes, past chairman and long-serving trumpeter, has decided that it's time to try other musical adventures. We would like to thank Will for his contribution to moving the Band forward over the past few years.
Anne Whiteside (clarinet) is currently on an employment sabbatical in Switzerland, but we look forward to welcoming her back next year.
Two of our woodwind players were on maternity leave over the summer and we are very pleased to announce two (very early) new arrivals.
Elizabeth Chandler (Oboe) gave birth to Isabelle Carys by emergency caesarean on July 13th. Isabelle was born 7 weeks early, weighing 4lbs 14ozs. She's now over 11lbs and doing well.
Louisa Griffiths (flute) gave birth to Freya Megan by emergency Caesarean on September 9th. Freya was 9 and a half weeks premature and weighed just 2lbs 12ozs, but she is now home from hospital, weighs 5lbs 12ozs and is doing well.
